Our History

The Arnold family first settled in the Pozo Valley in 1919, when Thomas and Josephine Arnold sold their farm in Nebraska and moved out west.  For five generations members of the Arnold family have lived and worked on the original ranch land, raising beef cattle and farming a variety of crops. Pozo used to be a bustling town with a saloon and hotel being a main hub for people traveling between the coast and central valley. With a railroad in Santa Margarita it was a destination point for passengers or goods. At one point Pozo had a population of about 600 people, a school district, a few blacksmith shops, a post office, and a general store. Today the population is hanging on at about 30 people. The historic saloon still stands.

Our Home

Nestled beneath the Santa Lucia Mountain Range, and surrounded by National Forest, the Pozo Valley is located approximately 28 miles Northeast of San Luis Obispo on the Central California Coast.

The valley maintains a Coastal influence evidenced by the fog that can often be seen creeping through the mountain passes.  The extreme fluctuation in daily temperature during the growing season has proven to be an ideal climate for growing flavorful varietals, resulting in some extraordinary wines.

Our Vineyard

The vineyard was planted in 1995 by Steve Arnold, with the help of his wife Debbie, and children Joey & Michelle.  For years special attention has been given to producing grapes of the highest quality.  Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot were the varietals chosen for their suitability to the valley's soils and climate. In 2007 the Arnold family expanded ever so slightly by adding 1/2 an acre of Viognier to their 32 acre vineyard.
